PART 1: THE WORLD AS IT HAPPENED
In the beginning, humans were the dominant species. They marveled at their own creations. There were no other humanoid races on Earth. In an inevitable struggle for power, a world war broke out, destroying 90% of the planet’s human inhabitants and nearly all other mammals. Radiation spread profusely across the world, killing or mutating all of the world’s species.
The humans had created several subterranean hangars, in anticipation of possible future nuclear war. Some of these hangars contained colonies of humans, DNA samples for all living creatures on the planet in a massive database. This database was spread throughout all of the hangars. The humans believed that this information would allow them to “recreate the world” in the event of a nuclear catastrophe.
Unfortunately, an alien race, the fey, came shortly after the war to inhabit the planet for their own purposes. Their goal was to harvest the Earth’s resources until there were no more and then to move on. This was a warring race.
When the fey arrived, they completely decimated the surface of the planet, as well as over half of the subterranean hangars. Upon landing, they immediately started constructing their cities on the planet’s largest land mass. Their city spanned thousands of miles. This city would be called Grandis. This city would be the exclusive residence of the fey, allowing them to protect themselves and be isolated from the rest of the planet.
The humans, knowing about the fey’s arrival and their plans, quickly took up arms against them. They amassed what was left of the subterranean army (about 1,000 people) and flew to Grandis to exterminate the fey. The humans, unfortunately, were sorely outmatched. The fey easily wiped out the entire human army, leaving only few survivors.
These survivors created a small settlement on Ash (what was North America). They founded a number of small colonies, all unknowing of the others. They fey did not heed their presence, knowing that they were not a threat, and also knowing that Ash had no resources that the fey desired to harness. The two species avoided each other after that.
After a couple hundred years, the humans were able to salvage nearly all of the technology left on Ash. The colonies became towns. They began to multiply, learned of each others’ presence, and began to live together. The settlements survived in spite of the harsh terrain, radiation and mutated animals.
The most famous human figure during this time (the closest thing to a leader that they had) was a man named Tobias. He had a strong connection with ether (the energy of souls). Through this, he was able to manipulate matter and bend it to his will. His town (located in what was north-western Canada) was huge. There were many houses, inns, tall buildings. It was the most established human nation at this time. It had refineries and a post office. Everyone looked up to Tobias and depended on him for support and leadership. The town was called Deridge.
The humans were unable to sail across the ocean, fly or travel in space. The existence of the fey has become rumors and scary stories. The people were afraid to travel across the ocean. Tobias was murdered (by Blaire) in the year 3164. At the time of his death he was 148 years old.
One other notable human was Mansir. Mansir helped create Ash’s second-most established city. It was located near the middle of the continent, and spanned dozens of miles. Mansir was wandering Ash after the war and after the fey arrived. He wore a mechanical suit that linked into his nervous system, since his body was destroyed by the radiation. This machine makes him practically immortal. Mansir had a quest. His machine was programmed to reestablish the world by completing the subterranean project. During his travels, he came across humans in trouble. He saved them (instinctively), and they began to follow him. Once a large group of followers had amassed, Mansir decided to create a city to house these people and protect them. He founded the colony of Atarian. This colony was by far the largest colony of humans, though it was the least evolved. Mansir was the city’s defense, and vowed to protect the city for the rest of his life. He put a council in charge of the city to govern it. He knew nothing of politics or leadership. He was more interested in the subterranean hangar that the city was built directly on top of. He spent a lot of time trying to start the subterranean project from this hangar.
THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT
The fey experimented on the animals of the Earth, breeding them with other fey. They were attempting to breed a stronger fey, since they were not a strong race. Once, after breeding a fey with a tiger, they succeeded. After about 500 years, the new species had multiplied in number. This species, however, hated the fey. This species was called the fey-lin. This is a good-aligned race.
The fey tried to exterminate all of the fey-lin. The fey-lin broke free and fled Grandis, forming small colonies all around the continent. The fey began hunting the fey-lin, in order to protect themselves from them. The fey-lin used guerrilla tactics. They soon realized that they could not win this war. They crafted vessels and sailed across the ocean. They finally reached what once was South America. They inhabited it completely, and are the only dominant race on that continent. They constantly attack the fey in waves of about 500.
In response, the fey began to reproduce feverishly to replenish those that were lost in the fey-lin raids. The fey stopped attacking the fey-lin after they learned that they could not stop them. After a while, the war fizzled down, since both sides realized that neither could win.
1. The humans inhabit North America.
2. The fey inhabit Eurasia.
3. The fey-lin inhabit South America.
The history of the world as we know it starts in the year 3014. This year is affectionately known as “Year 1”.
THE DRAKOOR
Year 3164, the year of Tobias’ death: no one knows how he died. In the year 4164, one hundred years after Tobias’ death, the fey begin to notice themselves changing – in appearance as well as in their minds. They become more evil, and like it. They also grow hair, and begin to look much more like humans.
In the same year, a part of South America with a 10 mile radius lifts up out of the ground and begins to float mysteriously into the air. This land mass floats near the Bermuda Triangle. There were about 100 fey-lin stuck on this ‘island’.
Year 5164: The fey find a new energy source. It is more powerful than any other, enhancing the capabilities of crystal and diamond melding, weapon smithing, as well as all of their other technologies. They now wield this energy inside themselves. They begin to learn how to use this new energy.
The fey-lin on the land mass evolve. Many have died since the land rose up. They grew twice as large and twice as strong as they originally were. A few evolved into a very slender humanoid species. They became more intelligent, and founded a city.
Year 6164: The humans have re-established North America in all its former glory. They have reclaimed all of their past technology. They dare not venture off of their continent, out of fear of the other species. They plan to, after harvesting as many resources as possible, take to space to find a new planet to inhabit. The subterranean hangars remain dormant, their secrets never unlocked.
The fey have completely evolved into grandians. They now resemble human females. They all look exactly the same. They still reproduce asexually. They are chaotic evil. The new energy they discovered bent their minds, destroying all law that they once had. Their only desire now is to kill every living creature on the planet.
At the same time, the fey-lin on the floating island have evolved into the world’s most powerful race. The males resemble men bred with the dragons of legend. They are strong, intelligent and fast. The women are very slender humanoid half-dragons as well. They are very small and bald. The males have hair. Both have tails, although that of the male is much longer and used as a weapon. The males have wings while the females do not.
The drakoor and the grandians are at war. There are only about 100 drakoor, and are very lawful creatures. They are up against the grandian army of nearly 2 million. The fey-lin are now afraid of the grandians and hide from them. By now, the grandians have wiped out most of the fey-lin, but some have migrated to North America and live among humans. They help the humans.
The fey-lin and humans also inhabit was once was Australia. This land is rich in resources. There are also some fey-lin hiding on Antarctica.
The drakoor send 10 of their warriors to attack the grandians once per year. The grandians fear the drakoor. They have a breath attack of pure ether, which instantly disintegrates the grandians and quickly destroys their buildings. The drakoor have reduced their numbers to the thousands.
A drakoor mother takes hundreds of years to reproduce, and the species has no desire to. This is the disadvantage of the drakoor. The grandians would like to attack the drakoor homeland, but are unable to. The drakoor have created an impenetrable shield of ether protecting their island.
